Research

1. Insect Taxonomy and Systematics

We conduct taxonomic and phylogenetic studies of agricultural insects, including aphids, thrips, parasitoid wasps, psocids, planthoppers, and other micro-pests. Our research integrates morphology, specimen examination, host associations, and molecular data to clarify species identity and evolutionary relationships.

2. DNA Barcoding and Molecular Diagnostics

We develop DNA-based identification tools for agricultural pests, quarantine insects, and regional insect biodiversity. These approaches support rapid and reliable identification of immature, damaged, cryptic, or morphologically difficult specimens.

3. Mitogenomics and Phylogenetics

We use complete mitochondrial genomes to investigate evolutionary relationships and taxonomic problems in aphids, thrips, parasitoid wasps, psocids, planthoppers, and related insect groups. Mitogenomic data help improve our understanding of insect evolution, classification, and lineage diversification.

4. Insect Specimen Collection and Biodiversity Resources

The GNU Insect Collection provides reference specimens for taxonomy, pest diagnosis, regional biodiversity research, and long-term ecological monitoring. The collection serves as a regional biodiversity archive and a foundation for agricultural and quarantine entomology.
