Civil engineering is a very broad and important discipline that plans, designs, and constructs socially important capital facilities such as roads, ports, airports, bridges, tunnels, power plants, dams, irrigation, drainage, water supply, sewage, and public transportation. These facilities are fundamental to improving the quality of life of modern people by protecting life and property from natural disasters such as floods, heavy snowfall, earthquakes, and typhoons, and providing convenience in daily life.

The fields of civil engineering are broadly divided into structural engineering, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering, and urban engineering, and today's civil engineering is developing into a high-tech field that utilizes various numerical analysis methods, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, large computers, and computer graphics to build more economical, safe, convenient, and attractive public facilities.

The activities and decisions of civil engineers are essential for the safety, economy, and comfort of modern society. The Department of Civil Engineering aims to foster competent human resources who plan, design, construct, maintain, and manage these public facilities that our society depends on based on sound judgment and accurate theories. The Department of Civil Engineering adopts a variety of teaching methods, including theoretical lectures and quarterly field trips to acquire a sense of the field.
