The College of Veterinary Medicine at Gyeongsang National University sets its ideology of education as “ contributing to the improvement of human health and animal welfare by fostering talented veterinary experts with creativity.” Under such ideology, the College trains students in the areas of basic elementary education, quarantine education, animal clinic, medicine, pharmacy, public health, agriculture, animal husbandry, life science, and environmental hygiene to produce expert veterinarians in the diagnosis, prevention, and curing of animal diseases.

It is a two-year pre-veterinary course that completes basic elementary education and basic preliminary education that is required for majors prior to advancing to the Department of Veterinary Medicine in the College of Veterinary Medicine. The students study basic medicine, agro livestock, and veterinary life science to acquire the background knowledge needed for a smooth transition to in-depth learning.
Upon completion of the two-year pre-veterinary course, students advance to the Department (main department) as freshmen where they study key elementary subjects of medical science, such as physiology, anatomy, histology, and microbiology. As they advance to become upperclassmen, they study more diversified subjects required for animal clinics. Students will receive their veterinary license upon completing the four-year coursework and passing the national exam. It is in accordance with the concept of “One Health,” which is highlighted as one of the core graduation competencies of prospective veterinarians that meet the evaluation criteria of the Korea Veterinary Education Certification Institute, that contributes to the safety control of livestock products and environmental hygiene. It is a part of educating future veterinarians in the direction of strengthening health and livestock quarantine work competency. In order to satisfy such social requirements, the College of Veterinary Medicine at the university concentrates on not only the specialized education in the clinic but also in fostering quarantine experts.
