The Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering at Gyeongsang National University, which is the only department of national university in Korea, teaches and studies about pharmaceutical engineering theory and practice to train experts in the pharmaceutical industry.
The academic characterization of pharmaceutical engineering is that it is a new, convergence field of study that combines the basic science, medicine, pharmacy, and engineering. The core curriculum is pharmaceutical genetic engineering, pharmaceutical biochemical engineering, microbiology, antibiotics, pharmaceutical formulation engineering, good manufacturing practice (GMP) and pharmaceutical analytical chemistry. Training in the multidisciplinary convergence majors provides knowledge in the development, manufacturing, quality control, and bioactivities of pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical ingredients. Furthermore, it develops the abilities typically required by the pharmaceutical industry specializing in pharmaceuticals, functional cosmetics, health functional foods, and medical devices.
Currently, graduates work for pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic companies as well as research institutes and government organizations.
