National Health Insurance(NHI)

Mandatory Enrollment of National Helath Insurance for international students

• From March 2021, international students are obliged to enroll the NHI.
• If a student has insurance from the home country, which is valid in Korea, it is no need to join the NHI.
• If you fail to pay the insurance contribution, your visa application may be rejected.
• If you fail to pay the insurance contribution, your property may be seized.

Benefits

• Support for medical expenses (including dental clinics, oriental medical clinics, pregnancy and childbirth-related care)
• No afterward insurance claim procedures are needed.
• Free health checkups and cancer checkup(Check if you are the recipient of the checkup this year beforehand.)

Insurance Contribution

• In case of students, only 50% of the insurance contribution will be charged. (March 1st, 2023 - February 28th, 2024)

  Average insurance contribution of foreigners: KRW 143,840 per month

• ①D-2 holders and ②D-4 holders do not need to apply.
• ③F-4 Undergraduate students should apply to the National Health Insurance Service with a certificate of enrollment.

  For F-4 holders, only undergraduates are charged 50%.(100% for graduate students)

• Estimated Amount for the first month: KRW 80,090

Payment deadline

• 25th of every month (Bills will be delivered to the address around 10th of every month)

How to Pay

• Visit to branch offices or bank, Internet banking, ATMs, Credit cards, etc.

Enrollment as a family unit

• If you have a spouse or a child under 19 years of age with the same residence, you can pay insurance contribution as a family unit.
• Required documents(All of the requirements should be fulfilled.)

  2. 02Certification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your home country/Apostille
  3. 03Translation into Korean
