Founded in 1983 by a group of pioneers, our medical school has maintained top rankings in the nation in the passing rate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the most basic indicator of a medical school, despite its short history by making unremitting efforts to improve the quality of education and strict academic management from the first graduates, and has received "full accreditation" four times from the Korea Educational Evaluation Service, keeping pace with leading universities nationwide in terms of medical education, research, and facilities.Alumni have served their alma mater as professors, researchers, and in frontline medical and healthcare administrative positions in the community.

Our College of Medicine has a 1,000-bed training hospital on 38,000 square meters of land, and in 2007, the Gyeongnam Regional Cancer Center was established and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment such as cyberknife, which has been helping local people with cancer treatment and care. The Regional Cardiocerebrovascular Center and the Southeast Regional Rheumatology and Degenerative Arthritis Center were also established, and in 2016, Changwon Gyeongsang National University Hospital was opened, enabling the hospital to expand beyond the western Gyeongnam region and into the heart of Gyeongnam to provide the best medical care to all Gyeongnam residents. In addition, a lecture hall, MDL student laboratory, medical library, and clinical practice center consisting of 10 PBL rooms and 12 clinical practice rooms are fully equipped, and 190 dormitories for medical students have been built to provide convenience for students.
In 2019, we started the design and groundwork for the expansion and renovation of the Pioneering Medical Complex  which is equipped with state-of-the-art advanced lecture halls and laboratories, and in January 2021, we received approval from the Ministry of Education to add 1,456㎡ to secure space for the operation of educational programs to train core public healthcare personnel and strengthen future medical capabilities, such as overcoming infectious diseases in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era, and to fulfill the social responsibilities of a national university, and construction is fully  completed in 2023 (1 basement, 6 floors, 7,007㎡).In terms of research, our medical school is home to the Medical Science Research Institute, which includes the Cardiovascular Research Center, Neuroscience Research Center, Cancer Research Center, and Anti-Aging Research Center. We have been designated as a key research institute by the National Research Foundation of Korea in recognition of our research achievements. We are conducting large-scale research projects such as the Bio-Anti-Aging Basic Medical Science Research Center (BAMRC) and the BK21 Innovative Talent Development Project (Phase 4), and have been selected as a "Regional Cancer Center Research Support Project" and "Korean Body Derived Resource Base Bank," recognizing our outstanding research capabilities.
We have a "student tutoring program" where each professor is assigned 2-3 students. The program is conducted in an intimate environment in small groups. This will help students discover their future through the guidance of their advisors. From 2020 onwards, our medical school is taking a new leap forward, preparing for the post-Corona era. As a national base university that will be a bridgehead for realizing social value, we have completely revamped our curriculum to foster public healthcare and essential medical talent in the community; developed team-based and computer-based curricula to foster core public healthcare personnel and strengthen future medical competencies; built a space for research and analysis in the fields of big data and artificial intelligence; and are taking active steps to prevent the exodus of talented people from Gyeongsangnam-do province to the Seoul metropolitan area. As a nationally recognized medical school, we are cultivating medical talents who will lead the next normal in the post-corona era and contribute to improving human health and creating a healthy society.
We will do our best to ensure that the alumni who graduate from our medical school become leading doctors in the Korean medical community with a combination of competitiveness, self-development, medical and human skills.
