Since the establishment of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1984, the department has fostered excellent engineers by consistently being selected to participate in large-scale national projects such as Transportation system of BK21 (1999 ~ 2006), Technological innovation human resources training of NURI (2004 ~2009), Advanced Mechanical and Aerospace Engineers Education Program of the second phase of BK 21 Project (2006 ~ 2013), Mechanical, aerospace, and information integration engineering department of CK (2014 ~2019) and Next-generation mechanical and aerospace creative engineers education program of BK 21 PLUS (2013 ~ 2020).
Despite its short history, the division of Mechanical Engineering has been able to make outstanding developmental progress due to countless efforts from the faculty members and the students in addition to its geographical advantage and the strong supports of the university. The faculty consisting of relatively young professors is committed with passion in education and research, and the students follow its guidelines with enthusiasm. As a result, the professors make numerous research achievements, and the students enjoy high rate of employment after graduation, working in every field as the cornerstones of the society.

School of Mechanical Engineering in Gyeongsang National University is highly renowned for its geographical advantage adjacent to three key locations: Changwon National Industrial Complex which is specialized in machine industry, Geoje-si which is leading the global shipbuilding industry, and Sacheon-si which is the center of domestic aviation industry.
