Located in Jinju, the city of culture and education, the Department of Art Education was established based on the region's pride and expectations for art and culture, and is the only national art teacher training institution in the Yeongnam region. Through practical and theoretical education in art, the Department of Art Education aims to cultivate professional abilities in Korean painting, Western painting, sculpture, and design, as well as aesthetic sentiments and judgment of aesthetic values, and to train art teachers with a strong sense of mission and qualities for art education.

The department was established in 1981, and over the past 40 years, it has produced more than 800 graduates, who are active in the education and art worlds across the country.

In addition to approaching the department's educational goals, which are compressed into competency-based art teacher education and the training of creative professional artists, the Department of Art Education focuses on introducing curricula and new educational programs to respond to the social needs of art. In order to foster more professional art teachers, the department holds annual outdoor sketching and student on-campus presentations, and to improve the pass rate of the entrance examination, special lectures on the Internet and lecturers on art education are held annually. In addition, the Korean painting studio, Western painting studio, printmaking studio, design studio, sculpture studio, outdoor sculpture studio, and multimedia room are open 24 hours a day to improve teaching skills and prepare for the practical part of the entrance examination. Based on this, the Department of Art Education is ranked at the top of the Gyeongnam region in terms of pass rate.
