Bio-industrial Machinery Engineering

Overview

The bio-tech industry refers to a new field that has expanded the concept and scope of agriculture, which was previously limited to food production, through the development of advanced technologies such as biotechnology (BT), information and communication technology (IT), environmental engineering technology (ET), and nanotechnology (NT). In the past, agriculture was limited to production technology for self-sufficiency in food for plants and animals, but now it has greatly expanded into the development of useful material extraction and production technology, the development of various processed foods, eco-friendly production technology, the food safety and quality through the integration of advanced technology.

Bio-industrial machinery engineering is an academic field that deals with the engineering technology necessary for the biological industry. In other words, it aims to develop and advance the theory and application technology related to the design, production, and use of machines and devices necessary for the production, processing, storage, selection, transportation, and management of food, agricultural products, marine products, and livestock products by applying engineering knowledge and technology to the biological industry, thereby contributing to the productivity improvement, value-added, environmental improvement, and economic efficiency of agriculture and bio-resources. The main research fields of the department of bio-industrial machinery engineering are bio sensor and process engineering, smartfarm systems, bio-resource information engineering, agricultural intelligent control, bio-system nondestructive evaluation. We plan to continuously develop the curriculum into a discipline that meets the demands of the times by considering future research trends.
