Gyeongnam Rural Revitalization Support Center

Developing ASEAN Specialists: Student Exchange Program
between Korean and ASEAN Universities.

The Rural Revitalization Support Center is a regional-level intermediate organization operated by nine provinces designated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) to support resident-led regional development and capacity building in rural areas.

Purpose

The Gyeongnam Rural Revitalization Support Center has been designated and operated since 2013. The center supports the post-management of rural development projects, the operation of revitalization programs, and capacity-building projects for cities and counties to restore community spirit and bottom-up regional development. Through capacity-building training, the center has produced 295 field activists (local government officials and employees of the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC)), 779 rural (village) leaders, and 118 field experts by 2022. The center has contributed to the excellent performance of Gyeongnam cities, counties, and villages in the Creating a Happy Village Contest held since 2014 to promote rural development, improve the quality of life of residents, and revitalize rural communities.

The Rural Development Expert Course, operated by the center, provides capacity-building training for employees of the KRC and local government officials in rural development, urban regeneration, and marine development to improve their capabilities in establishing integrated rural development plans, project implementation, evaluation and monitoring, and follow-up management. Over the past 15 years, the center has graduated 357 rural development field experts (180 government officials and 177 KRC employees), who are currently working in the field.
