Department of Mechanical Convergence Engineering
The world has entered an era of limitless competition, where industry, academia, and research institutes are striving to secure technological capabilities based on R&D through creative convergence.
To proactively respond to these changes, the Department of Mechanical Convergence Engineering at the College of Engineering, Gyeongsang National University (Changwon Industry-Academic Campus) was newly established in March 2017. It is located in the Changwon National Industrial Complex, the largest machinery industry cluster in Korea and the primary engine of economic growth in the Gyeongnam region. This location creates a virtuous cycle of research and development, talent cultivation, and employment.
The Department of Mechanical Convergence Engineering integrates corporate research institutes and the university within the Changwon National Industrial Complex, aiming to nurture R&D professionals equipped with both engineering knowledge and practical industry experience. Students will study tailored courses taught jointly by outstanding professors and researchers from corporate research institutes within the industry-academic campus, growing into innovation-driven engineers.
With the local economy in decline and aging infrastructure in the Changwon National Industrial Complex, the government’s industrial complex advancement policy envisions transforming it into an R&D-centered, future-oriented national industrial hub. In response, the Department of Mechanical Convergence Engineering, located in the heart of the complex, is committed to meeting future demands for customized, high-level R&D talent and to producing professionals who can thrive in rapidly evolving industrial environments.
The department aims to become a leading university in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, focusing on smart factories, IoT, and artificial intelligence (AI) based on the machinery industry, establishing itself as a cradle for global industrial technologies and talent development.
Furthermore, students from the Department of Mechanical Convergence Engineering are expected to achieve high employment rates in top-tier companies, contributing significantly to the development of the national industry.
