Graduate School

The graduate school of KyungSang National University was established based on the Article 2 of the Basic Education Act, Article 28 of the Higher Education Act, Article 21 of the Enforcement Decree of the same act, and Article 6 of the National School Establishment Decree.

The graduate school aims to delve deeper into both the theory and applied methods of academia, refining its research and teaching. Through academic research and the pursuit of truth, it seeks to cultivate character, foster advanced academic abilities, and nurture creativity to contribute to the advancement of human culture and local communities.

Our graduate school is dedicated to training students who aspire to excel as scholars or professionals in their respective fields by providing profound academic research and training. The main objective is to nurture and produce professional research talents.

To achieve this, we are making efforts to attract domestic and international researchers by securing outstanding faculty, improving educational and research conditions, providing scholarships and living expenses, offering dormitories, sending students abroad as exchange students, and granting various research support benefits.

The graduate school operates centered around its departments. To maximize educational and research outcomes, departments consolidate their accumulated know-how. Collaborative programs between departments and cooperative programs with leading local companies and research institutions have been set up to provide specialized and advanced education.

Our graduate school, while focusing on quantitative growth, is also emphasizing the qualitative improvement of education and research. Since 1999, it has been recognized as a leading graduate school in the life sciences field by the government-supported BK21 program, nurturing world-class scholars in basic life sciences and biotechnological developments. Over the past 20 years, graduates from the life sciences domain of KyungSang National University have made significant contributions globally, with alumni thriving at top institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Berkeley, MIT, NIH, and the Max Planck Institute in Germany.

Notably, these research achievements have been recognized when, in 2003, among over 50 applying universities nationwide, Seoul National University (Nano Application System Research Center) and our university (Environmental Life Science Research Center) were concurrently selected by the Ministry of Science and Technology for the NCRC (National Core Research Center) program. As a result, we secured research funding of KRW 3 billion annually until 2010, totaling KRW 21 billion from the Korea Science Foundation, and additional matching funds from the university and local governments, totaling over KRW 25 billion. This ensures that we achieve world-class research capabilities in the field of environmental life sciences, standing among the global Top 10, and train experts with practical abilities in environmental engineering and biotechnology.
