Aerospace and Software Engnieering

This major aims to cultivate creative talents through an integrated education in aerospace engineering and embedded software engineering.

This major was established in 2013 by integrating the Department of Aerospace System Engineering in the College of Engineering and the Department of Information Science in the College of Natural Sciences, aiming to cultivate creative talents through a combined education in aerospace engineering and embedded software engineering. The aerospace systems engineering curriculum was established and operated in 1996 based on the long-term development plan of Gyeongsang National University, while the information science curriculum was initiated in 2004 based on the embedded software engineering specialization plan of Gyeongsang National University. The major, born from the integration of these specialized departments, can be said to possess excellent educational conditions and competitiveness for nurturing creative talents demanded in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

This major operates a curriculum related to the design and production of aircraft, helicopters, missiles, satellites, and spacecraft that operate above the Earth's surface, as well as the development of related embedded software. Such specialization is based on cutting-edge academic fields that require multidisciplinary approaches in materials, structure, dynamics, propulsion, control, electronics, and software. Therefore, it's a representative core creative knowledge area leading the elevation of national stature as a developed industrial country and strengthening future industrial competitiveness. As such, graduates from this major can widely enter not only traditional aerospace fields but also all industrial sectors requiring software, such as automobiles, shipbuilding, and power plants.

Near Gyeongsang National University is Jinju/Sacheon Aerospace National Industrial Complex, the largest aerospace cluster in Korea, making the career prospects for the major's graduates very bright. While focusing on the education goal of training advanced technical talents required in the aerospace and software engineering industry fields, this major also puts great effort into nurturing high-level research talents who will lead the development of related technologies. To achieve these goals, starting with the operation of the Aerospace Parts Technology Research Institute selected for the Regional Research Centers (RRC) project by the Korea Science Foundation in 1996, the major has successfully carried out various research and talent training projects.
