Gyeongsang National University (GNU; President Jin-Hoe Kwon) will hold the 7th International Conference on Aerospace Core Technology (ICACT 2026, 7th International Conference on Aerospace Core Technology) on May 28-29 at the Aerospace Industry-Academia Cooperation Center on the Gajwa Campus, with participation by global aerospace experts, to mark the 2nd anniversary of the opening of the Korea AeroSpace Administration and the 2nd Aerospace Day. The conference is co-hosted by the Aerospace Systems Research Center (ASRC) of Gyeongsang National University, the Gyeongnam Aerospace, Defense and Science Technology Institute (GADIST), the Global Aviation Core Technology Leading Research Center (Global ACTRC), and the Satellite System Core Technology Research Center (SCTRC).

ICACT is an international conference in the field of aerospace core technologies that has continued on a 2- to 3-year cycle since it was first held in 2008. Over the years, ICACT has served as a leading academic exchange where researchers and industry experts from Korea and abroad share the latest research results and technology trends and build international joint research and cooperation networks.

ICACT 2026 expands its topics beyond conventional discussions of aerospace core technologies to include the space industry, satellite communications and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT), Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), and aerospace policy and industrial strategies. This will enable broad discussion of the latest research trends and directions of progress across diverse fields such as future aerospace systems, eco-friendly propulsion technologies, composites and structures, flight control and systems, space exploration, and satellite technology.

This event will feature 23 experts from universities, research institutes, and industry in nine countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and India. In particular, participants include Dr. Martin Grabe (Head of the Rarefied Flows Group) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR); Dr. Samiayyan Pandian (former Director of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre) of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO); Dr. Feng-Tai Hwang (Head of Systems Engineering and Product Assurance Department) of the Taiwan Space Agency (TASA); Deputy Administrator Kyungwon Noh of the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA); Kwanjung Lee, Executive Vice President of the Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences (KSAS) and Professor at Seoul National University; and Jae-Hung Han, Director of the KAIST Space Research Institute, who will discuss aerospace core technologies and policy directions.

In particular, this ICACT 2026 is expected not merely to be an academic presentation event but, in connection with the trajectory of the Republic of Korea’s aerospace policy that has been gaining momentum since the establishment of the Korea AeroSpace Administration, to serve as an opportunity to promote internationally the competitiveness of the Gyeongnam region’s aerospace industry. Moreover, by bringing together leading scholars, policy experts, and industry stakeholders from home and abroad in one place, it is expected to lay an important foundation for Gyeongsang National University and the Gyeongnam region to leap forward as a hub of global aerospace cooperation.

Noh-Shin Myung, Professor and Director of the Aerospace Systems Research Center and Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee, said, “ICACT 2026 is a meaningful international conference where, on the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of the Korea AeroSpace Administration, we will discuss together the future vision of Korea’s aerospace industry and directions for global cooperation,” adding, “By bringing together leading experts from major aerospace agencies, universities, and industry worldwide at Gyeongsang National University to share aerospace core technologies and policy strategies, we hope this will elevate the international standing of Gyeongnam’s aerospace industry and lead to substantive joint research and cooperation.”
