The workshop, under the theme 'Namgang Futures: Architectural Explorations for a Sustainable Historic City,' ran for three days. The sites were Jinju Daecheop History Park and the Namgang area.

This workshop was the first jointly hosted international program since the Department of Architecture formally signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) this year with the two universities it had been exchanging with for a year and a half.

As invited tutors, Professor Erik L'Heureux, professor and chair of the Department of Architecture at Monash University, and Professor Kim Dongsei (Kim Dongsei), chair of the Department of Architecture at New York Institute of Technology, attended and directly guided students' work for three days. In his keynote address, Professor Erik L'Heureux introduced trends in international architectural education and his own projects.

The students’ outcomes will be exhibited alongside the Department of Architecture’s graduation projects at the Gyeongsang Architecture Exhibition, to be held at the Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Center on July 24 (Fri).

At the opening ceremony, Department Chair Kim Ji-hyeong of Gyeongsang National University’s Department of Architecture said, “As this is an opportunity to receive direct guidance from department chairs of leading overseas universities, I hope the students will actively demonstrate their capabilities.”

Professor Jeong Yong-su of Gyeongsang National University’s Department of Architecture, who served as planner and coordinator of the workshop, said, “Based on my educational and professional experience in the United States and Singapore, hosting this workshop with department chairs from overseas schools of architecture will be an important stepping stone for the department’s ongoing vision for internationalization,” adding, “I feel even more gratified because we have continued on- and offline exchanges for a year and a half in preparation for this event and the signing of the MOU.” He continued, “Going forward, we will continue to strengthen and expand our standing as the Department of Architecture of a glocal university through exchanges among the university’s faculty, researchers, and students.”
