Gyeongsang National University (President Kwon Jinhoe) announced that students in its aerospace and defense executive program took classes at a defense company’s production site.
The Gyeongnam Institute for Aerospace-Defense Science and Technology (GADIST; Director Kim Hyeongjun) held the 9th session of the "NEXUS Aerospace & Defense Strategy Academy Advanced Program" on Tuesday, July 28 at Hyundai Rotem’s Changwon Plant. The program runs for 16 weeks from May 28 to September 8, and 20 of the 25 enrolled attended that day.
This session was conducted by having participants visit the company where a classmate works. The participants toured the K2 tank and K808 wheeled armored vehicle production lines at Hyundai Rotem’s defense production plant in Changwon. As a program bringing together local industry, universities, research institutes, related agencies, and the military, it also served as an opportunity for networking among participants.
On that day, Han Jaeheung, Director of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Space Research Institute, gave a special lecture on "Future strategies for convergence technologies in aerospace and defense."
Kim Hyeongjun, Director of Gyeongsang National University’s GADIST, said, "By conducting classes through direct visits to the industrial sites where our participants work, we sought to realize a living industry-academia cooperation model that is not skewed toward theory," and added, "We will continue to invite top-level experts such as KAIST Space Research Institute Director Han Jaeheung and actively support strengthening the capabilities of leaders who will drive the global competitiveness of the Gyeongnam region’s aerospace and defense industries."
The NEXUS Aerospace & Defense Strategy Academy is an executive program created to cultivate talent from industry, academia, research institutes, and related agencies in the region’s flagship aerospace and defense sectors and to build a collaborative framework.
GADIST will continue on-site classes in the remaining sessions. At the 15th session on Tuesday, September 1, they will visit Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to tour the KF-21 production line.
