Gyeongsang National University (President Kwon Jin-hoe) announced that its College of Education (Dean Lee Sang-ho) held an invited expert lecture addressing cooperation tasks with the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education and counseling methods for Generation Z university students.

On the afternoon of October 2 (Fri), the College of Education held the “2026 Academic Year College of Education Teacher Competency Enhancement Invited Expert Lecture” in the Cara Hall on the 2nd floor of the Convention at the Asia Lakeside Hotel in Jinju. The lecture was conducted in two parts, Part 1 and Part 2.

In Part 2, Gyeongsangnam-do Superintendent of Education Kwon Soon-gi gave a special lecture on the theme “Gyeongnam Education Opening the Future of AI.” He proposed the following collaborative tasks for the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education and the College of Education to pursue together: training field-oriented prospective teachers who can be immediately deployed in future educational environments and developing the professionalism of in-service teachers; expanding field-linked practice schools and improving the quality of guidance for teaching practicum; joint research on academic achievement to devise solutions for basic academic skills, literacy, and achievement polarization; jointly operating AI-utilizing instructional programs for pre-service and in-service teachers; participation of field teachers in university classes and revitalizing field research by College of Education faculty; and “excellent teachers who grow up in Gyeongnam and teach Gyeongnam’s children.”

Prior to that, in Part 1, Professor Park Jeong-a, Director of the Counseling Center at the Center for Campus Life and Culture at Kyungnam University, gave a special lecture on “Understanding Generation Z College Students and Counseling Techniques that Open Their Hearts.” She analyzed the physical, behavioral, and psychological characteristics of Generation Z and presented methods helpful for student counseling. The main contents included five phrases to avoid during counseling; principles of student counseling; prioritizing understanding over solutions; reframing questions; empathy; reflection; validation; obtaining permission before giving advice; and scaling down the problem.

Lee Sang-ho, Dean of the College of Education, said, “We hope this invited expert lecture will serve as an opportunity for members of the College of Education to better understand and support students, and furthermore become a stepping stone for the College of Education to grow together through close collaboration with the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education.”
