Gyeongsang National University hosts a seminar on simulation technologies for very low Earth orbit (V-LEO) satellite development

- October 1 at Changwon Convention Center… About 150 from industry, academia, and research attended

- Five topics presented, from design/analysis to a SAR satellite development case

Gyeongsang National University (President Jinhoe Kwon) announced that it held a seminar to share development technologies and simulation case studies of very low Earth orbit (V-LEO) satellites with about 150 stakeholders from industry, academia, and research.

The Satellite System Core Technology Research Center at Gyeongsang National University and Ablemax Co., Ltd. co-hosted the 6th Distinguished Speaker Seminar on Thursday, October 1, at Convention Hall 2 of the Changwon Convention Center (CECO). Supported by Ansys, the seminar was held under the theme ‘Simulation Techniques for V-LEO Satellite Development.’ It focused on development technologies and modeling/simulation case studies for very low Earth orbit satellites, which are garnering attention as next-generation satellites amid the expansion of the domestic aerospace industry.

The seminar began with a welcome address by Kim Hyeong-il, CEO of Ablemax Co., Ltd. Dr. Sarthak Srivastava of Ansys delivered a presentation titled ‘Mitigating VLEO flight challenges through advanced modelling and simulation,’ introducing solutions to very low Earth orbit flight challenges using advanced modeling and simulation.

This was followed by Professor Park Jae-hyun of Gyeongsang National University presenting ‘Plasma effects on very low Earth orbit satellites,’ and Professor Kim Ho-rak of Pusan National University presenting ‘Space propulsion systems for VLEO satellite utilization.’ Yoon Sung-sik, team leader at Hanwha Systems, presented ‘Hanwha Systems’ VLEO SAR satellite development,’ and Shim Jeong-yeon, CEO of Ablemax Co., Ltd., presented ‘Simulation of aerodynamic and atomic oxygen environmental effects on very low Earth orbit satellites,’ respectively.

The Distinguished Speaker Seminar was launched by Ablemax Co., Ltd. in 2021 to invite experts in the space field to share knowledge and strengthen networking among stakeholders. Since 2022, it has been expanded to a co-hosted event with the Satellite System Core Technology Research Center at Gyeongsang National University and has been held annually.

This event provided a single venue to share everything from the design and analysis of VLEO satellites to real development case studies. The organizers expect that technical exchange and networking between experts and participants will help strengthen the aerospace technology capabilities of companies in the Gyeongnam region and lay the groundwork for industry–academia–research collaboration.

Park Jae-hyun, head of the Satellite System Core Technology Research Center at Gyeongsang National University, said the seminar was a meaningful opportunity to share the latest technology trends and development cases of VLEO satellites, which are drawing attention as next-generation satellites, and that they will continue to create such opportunities to contribute to the development of the space industry in the Gyeongnam region.

Kim Hyeong-il, CEO of Ablemax Co., Ltd., stated that, based on the collaboration with Gyeongsang National University that has continued since 2022, they will continue to create opportunities to share modeling/simulation technologies in the aerospace field with industry.
